The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is raising awareness about the risk of vehicle theft and providing guidance on protecting your vehicle from criminals.

Protect Your Vehicle
A stolen vehicle can create a financial and logistical nightmare. It may also cause your auto insurance rates to rise. Here are seven tips to prevent yourself from falling victim to this crime:
- Never leave a key in your parked vehicle.
- Lock all windows and doors when you park.
- Don’t leave valuables in your car, especially in plain sight.
- Park in well-lit areas or parking lots.
- Install an anti-theft system in your vehicle if it doesn’t have one.
- Park vehicles in your garage, if possible.
- Install motion-activated lights to deter thieves if you can’t park in your garage.
