According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), vehicle thefts have risen dramatically in recent years. Nearly 100,000 vehicles were reported stolen in 2021—a 6% increase from 2020 and a 17% increase from 2019.

Texas ranked 10^th in the country for the highest rate of car thefts in 2021.
